Quoting: "For such a neat monster, I'm making an awfully big mess." - Dexter Morgan

Lionsgate scored a triple win on the national home video charts the week ending Jan. 24, as the sci-fi actioner Gamer, with a mere $20.5 million in theatrical receipts, topped all three charts.

Lionsgate typically saves some of its moderately successful theatricals for January and February DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases, when major-studio menus are light. As a result, the mini-major is able to dominate the charts in those months, racking up significant sales and rentals.

Gamer debuted at No. 1 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart for the week, with the previous bestseller, Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All by Myself, another Lionsgate release, falling all the way down to No. 8.

Gamer also was the top-selling Blu-ray Disc release of the week, with Nielsen research showing that 31% of the title’s total first-week sales were on the Blu-ray Disc format.

As previously mentioned, Gamer was released on DVD & BluRay this past tuesday. I made captures for the site from the film, dvd menus and behind the scenes featurette and you can now browse them in the gallery. Clips will follow soon!

Regarding the film. I will just say that I really hated it personally if I am being honest. There were some scenes that looked quite unlike anything I had seen before but ultimately this just was not for me. However, I truly adored Michael as Ken Castle! Michael has only done four films but I will easily rank this as my favorite movie project of his simply for him alone. Granted his other movies aren’t really substantial in terms of screen time so it’s not a “fair” judgment, but he really was awesome in this! I died of laughter several times, he was the perfect evil genius! Although he is in a ‘villain’ role it truly is nothing like Dexter and fans of his looking for some more of his work would be wise to check this one out, Michael makes it totally worth seeing!

Warning: Some of the caps contain spoilery imagery so If you plan on watching, view at your own risk.

Yesterday Gamer was released on DVD & BluRay so be sure and grab yourself a copy. You can order on via Amazon or if a location is available for you, rent from Redbox if you like.

I have already gotten my copy and made caps. I will be uploading these probably tomorrow and I will be adding clips to the site as well.

By the way, I have more Golden Globes coverage to add but I’m currently having problems with my resizing program so it’s taking a little longer than I’d like. Going to try and get these up for everyone tomorrow if possible.

Gamer takes place in the non-too-distant future, where video games and reality TV have gone way beyond the boundaries of today. 2018’s top-rated show pits prison convicts against each other in a deadly militaristic game. John Tillman (Butler), framed and imprisoned for life for a crime he did not commit, must participate in the Game to win release from his sentence. His military training and natural physical prowess have made him hugely popular with the millions of fans who tune in each week to watch the show – but even more powerful forces want to make sure that Tillman never gets out alive.
