Tons of reports are coming in about what was discussed in the press room at the Golden Globes, I’ll be posting them as I find so return to this post for more!
Dexter‘s Michael C. Hall seems fine. It’s we reporters who seem out of sorts. After respectful applause for Hall’s entrance, the room falls silent. “Am I supposed to talk?” Hall asks.
On his current battle with cancer:
“Well, it’s a personal matter and to be completely frank, I had every intention of keeping it quiet. Because the award shows were imminent, I figured I would make a statement. It was also nice to make a statement at the point in my treatment that I did, where I was able to assure people that I am really on the road to recovery. And it’s nice to have a justifiable excuse for accessorizing.”
“It’s a matter of personal health. I had every intention of keeping it quiet.”
On his hat:
“It’s nice to have a justifiable excuse for accessorizing.” And, “I’m doing fine.”
“I wanted something pretty simple. I found this Japanese hat.”
OK, so about Hall’s headwear: Yes, it’s a treatment-related accessory, but more importantly, it’s comfy. “I wanted something that was pretty simple, but a maybe a little fancier than your normal thing,” he explains.
About Dexter
Hall says the show’s writers, they of last season’s shocking finale, head back to clean up the mess and start the new season on Wednesday. “I think I’m excited as all the viewers to see what’s in store,” he says.
What made this season special:
“Well John certainly turned the knob up to 11. He’s such a phenomenal talent and has such an energy about him that affects everyone from the crew to the producers.”
On enjoying the night’s excitement:
“I like to think that I have a pretty good head on my shoulders and that I don’t get too swept up, but I’ve never been less susceptible to getting swept up in a night like this considering the more down in the trenches kind of stuff I’ve been considering with the treatment. But, it’s really been nice. It’s really nice to see colleagues who know about it. Just to check in with them is really gratifying for me. I’ve very honored.”

Good news, Michael, there are so many of us out here who have survived either Hodgkin’s or Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I’m 10 years clear from NHL and even as I age (ick) I’m feeling better each day. I pray this is how your recovery marches on……..remission, remission, remission until they announce you are really cancer free. Blessings.

Congrtas on the win, you and the show certainly deserve it. My very favourite show on T.V. The acting and writing are brilliant. I am an actor and acting teacher and I refer to Dexter often as examples in backstory, truthfulness and innermonologue. I am anxiously waiting for the new season, I was stunned by the season finale (of course)….I can’t imagine how the writing team will deal with it. Our thoughts (my students and me) are with you and the challenges you are facing, good luck! See you on the tube in season 5!

Congratulations on the Golden Globe win, you absolutely deserved it. You are phenomenal in Dexter and I can’t wait to see what happens next season! I will say that I was sad and quite disturbed by this season’s finale so I am hoping to feel better once next season starts. You are an inspiriation! Keep up the good work :)

I don’t normally watch the Golden Globes or any other reward show but I recorded it this year on my DVR just to see if you won…and you did! I was so excited! You absolutely deserve it and so much more. Dexter is my favorite series on TV and I look forward to next season. I was surprised to hear of your illness (as I’m sure many of your fans were) but I’m so glad to hear that you’re in remission. Keep moving forward, I wish you all the health, joy and happiness in the world! Congratulations Michael!
Jenny • Jan. 19, 2010
Not a large “celebrity” person. However, I am such a fan of Michal C. Hall. With that being said, I have never watched the Golden Globes until this past Sunday. I literally screamed when Michael won his award and was happy when John Lithgow won his. I admit, I was upset when “Dexter” as a show did not win, but I guess you can’t win them all. This is a great show with a wonderful cast. I admire Jennifer for being supportive of her husband and wish them both all the best with his battle with cancer.
Henry Xu • Jan. 20, 2010
You nailed it man! You simply deserve the trophy!
Pray for your health and can’t wait to see you in the new season!

I don’t speak English as well, too because I’m from Germany but I’m a big fan of your work and I was very terrified to read about your disease. It’s nice to know that you recover and I want to say congratulations on your win!! You can be very proud of your acting work. The 2. season will air soon here in Germany and Gamer came recently to the German cinemas. I hope it will be successful!!
I wish you much success for the future and a good improvement!
Best wishes to you and your wife!

I just like to say that I wish many improvements to Michael.
And that’s when I knew what it was about his illness I began researching and see what it was, and I was happy to know that in the early stages there is treatment.
I live in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, and everyone here really like Dexter.
And all most of all respect their work.
Being that I’m even seeing all the work that it did.
And every time I see more and more how fabulous in the minimum is the work of Michael.
Good improvements and a hug.
Marko Diego Hüttl
(I hope Mr Michael C. Hall read this)
